My name is Leah Worley. I'm a 19-year-old artist from Los Angeles and currently based in New York City, pursuing a Fine Arts degree at Parsons School of Design.
My artwork explores themes of identity, memory, nostalgia, nature, and beauty, drawing from my personal experiences to create intimate and meaningful work. I explore how everyday objects like jewelry, silverware, and bags can act as a form of self-portraiture, holding memories and representing personal growth. I work mainly in realism, aiming to capture the details and intricacies of the subjects I depict, from flowers and lace to fierce dogs and insects, blending soft and hard imagery. This contrast allows me to explore complexity in identity and beauty, finding harmony between seemingly opposing ideas.
My process begins with personal reflection, exploring how objects, themes, or moments in my life have shaped me. I often focus on themes of childhood and nostalgia because they hold deep emotional meaning. In a recent work, I concentrated on bags I’ve used throughout my life, reflecting on the passage of time and the ways objects express identity. I work with a variety of mediums including pencil, colored pencil, acrylic paint, and sculpture.
Inspiration for my work most often comes from my surroundings. My work honors the intricacies of life, its beauty and depth. I aim to preserve memories and hope for viewers to feel a connection to my work in their own way, finding beauty in the ordinary and reflecting on their own experiences.
